About Us
North Shore Locksmiths was established in 1999 by Selwyn Adam, a locksmith who had spent the previous 11 years in the trade. After realising that he had the skills and desire to start up a new business, Selwyn forged ahead to create what is now known as North Shore Locksmiths. In five short years he had built up a business that was more successful than he had imagined, with its primary focus to offer and provide quality workmanship and ‘good old fashioned’ service at realistic prices.
As the business expanded Selwyn found that to maintain the quality of service he was providing would only be achieved by the utilization of additional skill sets. It was because of this that Selwyn made the difficult decision to sell the company.
In 2004, John van der Meeberg took over the business with his partner and continued the great service previously installed by Selwyn. John and his partner also decided to expand the company by acquiring ‘Mainly Handles’, a door hardware shop in Glenfield’s Wairau Park. This gave the business an added convenience; an outlet for customers to purchase products and obtain locksmith services right in the heart of the North Shore. Unfortunately, after only two years with the company, John and his family made the difficult decision to relocate to Australia.
In 2006 North Shore Locksmiths was acquired by the current owner, Craig Harrison, who now continues to offer the same quality of service and workmanship offered by Selwyn and John in those early years. Originally from the UK, Craig emigrated to New Zealand in 1994 where he spent many years working for an engineering company, before jumping at the chance to obtain and operate North Shore Locksmiths.
